Welcome to the Tamworth Region It’s synonymous with country music in Australia and Tamworth has hung its hat on country for years – but we’re much more than just bush hats, big buckles or golden guitars when it comes to the Tamworth region. The city hosts the giant carnival of music and fun in January each year – for a friendly festival where some 50,000 visitors come to party. We’re proud of the worldwide fame of the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival and our brand as the Country Music Capital of Australia. But the Tamworth region isn't just one city or one place. The Tamworth urban area is a city of over 40,000 but with another 16,000 people spread through towns and areas like Kootingal, Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and another 17 hamlets and localities over the council region. Tamworth is a modern, progressive city surrounded by a rural and regional community with a pretty easy going lifestyle that blends city style with country heart. We have a strong economy and vibrant retail and hospitality sectors. The $30 million Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre is one of the most spectacular recent projects that is meeting national and regional demands. The new Capitol Theatre opened last year and is already laying them in the aisles with bookings for touring and regional productions. There’s lots more to see and do too – Manilla has one of the best parts of the world to jump off a cliff – it’s the paragliding capital of Australia. At Nundle, you’ll find old worlde charm mixed with a heritage of the early goldfields. Out Barraba way they’re big on birds – it’s a recognised bird route for watchers everywhere. In between, you can find a lot more. We’re big on sport all over, from the leisure and recreational to the active and high powered. Come and see us anytime. Constantly updated population and community profile webpage's are available - with socio-demographic data about the people who live and work in the Tamworth region.
